Later this year the government will announce the biggest shake-up of the planning system in decades; already it is promising to accelerate planning changes to speed up housing delivery.

Permitted development rights have long been one of the most controversial planning reforms, allowing shops and other businesses on our high streets to be converted into residential stock without planning permission. Now the government is proposing extending the reform.
