Race is the Labour MP for Exeter, elected in 2024. He is chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Pharmacy, the APPG for the Great South West and the Labour group of 24 MPs for the South West. He was previously a local councillor for six years. Race has had a successful career in business, providing consultancy support in communications and policy to companies including Aston Martin, British Airways, HSBC, National Grid and Nissan. He also spent almost four years on the UK board of McKesson UK, owner of Lloyds Pharmacy and AAH, the largest medicines distributer in the country, leading a team of eight people covering crisis, policy and government communications.
